Failed To Load Your Preferred PKCS #11 Library
If the Shaman Agent persists in this popup message, your token is not
installed properly. There are several ways to correct this.
The Shaman works on top of an Application Programmer's Library, shortly known
as an API. Your token should support a standardised API known as PKCS #11 or
Cryptoki.
Underneath the Shaman, a piece of software called AnyCryptoki enables you to
setup other tokens. The next time you restart the Shaman Agent, it will
use a token setup through AnyCryptoki, and if it cannot find a token, it will
ask AnyCryptoki to look for one.
To initiate a search for a token library, open your menu:
Start -> All Programs -> OpenFortress -> AnyCryptoki -> Select Middleware
This runs a disk scan in the background. This takes long, but only the first
time you need to do it. After some time, you will be given a popup screen
that shows you what choices exist on your system.
You will normally get a single choice.
If you get nothing to choose from, you have a problem with your token drivers.
Either they are not installed (look into your token manual or ask your token
supplier for help on this) or your token drivers are not suitable for some
reason. The most probably cause is improper compatibility with the PKCS #11
standard.
A little tool on our website will help you generate a registry file that you
can install if you need to manually override the scans explained above. These
registry settings are specific for your kind of token.
In the token manual, find the DLL that implements PKCS #11, which is also known
as Cryptoki. It is a path name on your disk, usually starting with
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ and ending in .DLL. Lower case and upper case
letters may vary, and even the words in the path names may differ from token
to token.
Visit our online tool and enter the path name on your system exactly as
it is given in your manual. Click the button to receive the registry file for
your token. On IE, you can directly Run the file, and you'll be done.
With IE you may also Save first, and with FireFox you should Download it too.
If you save it on your Desktop it will show up with an icon like this:
If you like, you can right-click and select Edit, so you can inspect this file
before installing it. It is a harmless simple file as you will see.
Double-click to install, confirm the popup request and read the messages to
see if it has worked. If you made no typo's, your Shaman Agent should now
continue to load properly without any further popups.
You can ignore the error popup while you are making the repairs shown above.
After you're done, click OK on the message box(es) that appear and in one or
two such clicks you should see the welcome screen of the Shaman Agent, and the
agent's icon will appear in the System Tray.
If you cannot get your token working right away, you should stop the Shaman
Agent manually. To this effect, type Ctrl-Alt-Del (all three keys at the
same time) and on the popup window click the Processes tab. Look for
the process shaman-agent.exe, click on it and at the bottom click
End Process.
